Blake Garden in Winter

During the winter months the garden is a very dynamic place. Although not much is in flower, we are busy mulching, pruning, clearing and staying on top of winter storm damage. Frogs are peeping and birds are tuning up for the spring. Much water fills the tributaries of Cerrito creek that run through the garden. These photographs are taken during a break in storms that dropped over 11 inches of rain on the Blake garden. Although we loved having water in our drought stressed landscape (3rd year), it can be at times overwhelming to see the amount and the power of water as it comes from the hills and washes through the garden. Luckily the largest storms were during the day and our staff was at the ready to handle blockages, overflows and diversions.
